So in Bonao, which is located in the Dominican Republic, is one of the most brilliant and fiery carnivals in the world. It usually starts on the 7th of February and lasts until March 14. Colorful carnival recognized as a masterpiece. In 2001, the year he was included by UNESCO in 2001 to the list of oral and intangible heritage of humanity. In Colombia, the carnival, though not as widespread, but no less memorable than in Brazil. In Barranquilla there are parades begin on the second Saturday of February and last for weeks. Until the closing of the carnival did not fade away to the rhythms of cumbia and do not stop dancing. Traditional festivities are held in Ecuador. In Ecuadorian carnival is considered to drench each other with water. It is remarkable that this custom is typical for Peru, where the carnival lasts for all four weekends of February.

Another unusual holiday in Latin America is associated with alcohol. At about the same time when there are carnivals, that is, on the first Saturday of February, Peruvians celebrate the Day of the cocktail “Pisco sour” . This holiday is to pay tribute to the most popular cocktail. Since the sixteenth century in Peru, I love to drink vodka under the name “Pisco”, which is made on the basis of grape juice. This holiday is quite young — it was formally established only in February 2004 year, but that does not make it less popular. Interestingly, so far it is not known where it came up with “Pisco sour” – this is the merit of the claim, as Peru and Chile. But since this holiday is held in Peru, probably this country could be considered a cocktail as its national drink. On this festive day, the Peruvians gather in the streets and squares of their cities, where the rhythms of Creole music are folk festivals and dances. The best part of the holiday that, in this day manufacturers Pisco buy their products for free. And in the South of Peru is the traditional national contest for making the best cocktails.

One of the most unusual festivals in Latin America is the “Celebration of the Battle” or “Tinka” . celebrated in Bolivia. Interestingly, in this case, the festivities are held not in some big city with a large area, and in a very small Bolivian village Acacia. The celebration of “Tinka” is a very unusual action. It begins with the fact that a Catholic priest recites a long mass. This is not surprising, because in Latin America are very religious people. But as soon as the Padre says “Amen”, between members and the real battle begins. Moreover, fists waving Bolivians, with the same vehemence with which and read prayers. Oddly enough, a bloody mess dedicated to raising corn and other crops. It appears this way in Bolivia is considered to enjoy a great harvest. Interestingly, fists waving not only men but also women. The action is reminiscent of the fighting, the opponent can hit anything and anywhere. Unfortunately, sometimes Bolivians are so fascinated by the process that it goes as far as fatal outcomes. However, the Bolivian government is not going to ban this dangerous holiday, because of this bloody tradition for several hundred years. Therefore Tinka can be considered cultural heritage of Bolivia.

It turns out that Mexico boasts unusual holidays. And it’s not only famous all over the world, Day of the dead. The Mexicans, apparently, very cheerful and funny people, that’s why in this Latin American country, there is a Day of laughter. However, note its not the 1st of April, as is customary with us, and 28th of December. Strange, but the origins of this fun filled holiday far from happy. 28th December – Day of the Innocents slaughter of the innocents. According to the Bible, on this day, king Herod ordered to kill all children in Bethlehem. Yeah, at first glance, this holiday there’s nothing funny. But the same Bible story tells that when the guards stopped the virgin Mary, bearing in diapers newborn Jesus, she prayed to the Lord. Then the guards saw the bundle is not a baby but a bouquet of roses. This happy Mexicans. In addition, on this day, every resident of Mexico is committed someone to cheat. While the liars with ease forgiven, even the thieves in this holiday can easily avoid the deserved punishment.

On Easter island, which belongs to Chile, each year they celebrate the “Tapati Rapa Nui” . It begins in late January and continues until mid-February. This unusual holiday reminds costume carnival. All festivals are very fun and unpretentious. Men compete in agility and strength. They race descend from the rocks on the trunk of the banana palm, and suit swims in the lake. Also they run with heavy bunches of bananas for a while. In women competition no less difficult — member fish and weave cloth. One in which the work is done faster and more thoroughly, is appointed by the Queen of the feast. After her dancing, singing and fireworks. This tradition has developed only in 1964, the year, but today this holiday on Easter island became so popular that in order to participate in it have to take place almost a year in advance.
